“…This study also contributes to the advancement of the research field on the identification of factors related to waste sorting behaviour. Recent bibliometric research suggests that the study of waste sorting behaviour is generating a growing literature (Concari et al, 2022a). Research on waste management focuses on different types of waste, sometimes grouped under the umbrella term 'recycling'.…”

“…The mentioned meta-analysis and systematic literature reviews (Concari et al 2020 ; Concari et al 2022 ; Li et al 2019 ; Miafodzyeva and Brandt 2013 ) also show that goal constructs have never actually been fully and directly considered in the study of recycling behavior. “…The paper contributes to the literature on the relationship between education, and pro-environmental behavior in general and recycling in particular. A large literature explores the drivers of pro-environmental behavior including recycling (Jenkins et al 2003, Hage et al 2009, Evans et al 2013, Concari et al 2022, while increasing the share of waste that is recovered and recycled is an important policy goal to facilitate the transition to a circular economy (European Commission 2018, Tallentire and Steubing 2020). Existing evidence suggests a positive association between higher education and pro-environmental behavior (Videras et al 2012, Diederich and Goeschl 2017, Amore et al 2019, Ponce et al 2019, Hoffmann and Muttarak 2020, Stojanovski et al 2020, attitudes (Owen and Videras 2007, Torgler and Garcìa-Valiñas 2007, Eiswerth et al 2011, Franzen and Vogl 2013, perceptions of climate change (Deryugina 2013, Poortinga et al 2019, Douenne and Fabre 2020, Levi 2021, support for environmental policy (Harring et al 2020) and stated willingness to pay for ecosystem goods and services (MacKerron et al 2009).…”
