The safe use of recycled paper and board material for food packaging applications is a major area of investigations. Therefore, the aim of current study was to evaluate the amount of heavy metals in recycled paper pastry packages and measurement of migration over the time into pastries.In this study, the presence of heavy metals in common confectionery packaging and effects of storage time and kind of pastry on the migration are investigated.The results of the study indicate that harmful metals such as Pb are detected at high concentrations in most of the recycled boxes that are used for pastry packaging, and heavy metals could migrate from the recycled packages into food during usage.It seems that the procedure of preparing recycled paperboard for food packaging should be reconsidered.

No entanto, estudos que analisaram várias amostras de alimentos comerciais quanto à presença de bisfenol A (BPA), bis (2-etil-hexil) ftalato (DEHP), monoetoxilato de nonilfenol (NMP) e de di-nonilfenolethoxilate (NDP), que são substâncias presentes em papel reciclado, verificaram que nem todas as amostras continham todos os contaminantes, porém os contaminantes que foram encontrados estavam em altas concentrações, o que pode ser um limitante para que materiais de celulose reciclados sejam utilizados em contato direto com produtos alimentícios [63] . Embora evite a derrubada de florestas, a reciclagem do papel pode causar outros impactos, uma vez que utiliza substâncias tóxicas, que se não forem tratadas corretamente são altamente poluentes.…”

AesumoA mudança de hábito e o aumento do consumismo nas últimas décadas levaram a inovações tecnológicas e consequentemente à maior produção de bens de consumo, o que gerou um aumento na produção de embalagens. As embalagens estão presentes em diversos setores, dentre eles destacam-se as indústrias de alimentos, nas quais as embalagens têm como principal função contribuir para conservação do alimento, além de vender o produto. Diferentes materiais são utilizados na fabricação de embalagens para alimentos, sendo eles os plásticos, metais, vidro e celulose. Cada material possui suas diferentes características para conservar o produto, dentre elas as principais são propriedade de barreira a gases, aroma, luz, água, microrganismos e resistência mecânica. No entanto, apesar das diversas vantagens de sua utilização, seu uso e descarte desordenado gera um grande volume de resíduos sólidos, que estão associados ao impacto ambiental. Em preocupação a essa situação têm-se buscado meios alternativos para reduzir tais impactos podendo destacar a reutilização e reciclagem das embalagens, bem como o desenvolvimento de polímeros verdes e materiais biodegradáveis. Palavras-chaves: meio ambiente, biodegradáveis, reciclagem, resíduos sólidos. AbstractChange of habits and increasing consumerism observed in the recent decades have widely influenced technological innovations, as well as the growth of consumer goods production, which has consequently required a crescent packaging production. Packages are used in diverse sectors, among them the food industry stand out, in which their main functions are to contribute to food conservation and selling the product. Different materials, such as plastics, metals, glass and paper, have been used in the food packaging production. Each material has different attributes that help to conserve the product: gas, aroma, light, water barrier, microorganisms and mechanical strength are the main ones. Despite the several advantages of its application, its uncontrolled use and disposal result in a large volume of solid residues and environmental impact. Concerning this situation, alternative practices, such as reuse and development of biodegradable and green polymers, have been considered in order to reduce the impacts.

A new ambient ion source was developed and its application to real samples has been demonstrated. This ion source is based on a previously build ion source using chemical ionization under atmospheric pressure and extractive electrospray ionization (DIP-APCI/EESI). To enhance the range of analytes, we added to this ion source a photoionization lamp to enable also photoionization, which allows the possibility to analyze polar (EESI), middle (APCI) and non-polar (APPI) analytes with the same source and with no or only a small change of the setup. In comparison with DIP-APCI, this ion source reaches similar analytical limits but shows better sensitivity for some aromatic and non-polar analytes. The analysis of bisphenol A from extracts of recycled paper demonstrates the use of this ion source for real samples. Quantification was possible by the use of a deuterated internal standard that was added to the papers before extraction. Here atmospheric pressure chemical ionization leads to bad results due to ion suppression, whereas atmospheric pressure photoionization shows results that fit to literature values.
