“…17 Several authors described the effectiveness of FREMS in the treatment of painful diabetic neuropathies. [11][12][13] In these studies, in addition to its analgesic effect, FREMS treatment was shown to improve cutaneous blood flow measured by laser doppler flowmetry and partial tissue tension of oxygen and carbonic anhydride by oxymetry 11,13 and also several other functional peripheral nerve parameters, such as electroneurography and vibration perception threshold. 12 The present study suggested a greater effectiveness of FREMS and topical treatment as compared to topical treatment alone in patients with chronic and painful venous leg ulcers.…”

“…10 Among physical therapies that use electrical stimulation, frequency rhythmic electrical modulation system (FREMS) is an innovative type of transcutaneous electrotherapy used in the rehabilitation setting for the treatment of pain, especially in patients with diabetes mellitus. [11][12][13][14] This method uses sequences of modulated electrical stimuli that vary automatically in terms of pulse frequency, duration, and voltage amplitude. The FREMS method was designed on the basis of the hypothesis that the summation of subthreshold electrical stimuli, conveyed through the skin proximal to a motor nerve in a noninvasive system, would induce composite motor action potentials in excitable tissues through specific sequences of weak impulses, characterized by a rapid increase and decrease in pulse frequency and duration, which results in the gradual recruitment of membrane potentials in the stimulated tissues.…”

“…In order to comply with privacy and data protection regulations, the data was treated in anonymous form, and only subject age and sex were associated to the recorded signals. The trial involved a group of 40 subjects, partially acquired in previous experiments [11]. Subject age ranged from 20 to 74 years (mean = 39.075, SD =14.947).…”

“…Participants agreed to participate in the study after receiving complete information on the purpose of the research and the procedures involved and signed the informed consent form, accordingly to ethical requirements as prescribed by Helsinky declaration. All measurements were performed at a controlled room temperature, which was set approximately at 21 o C. Details of the procedure are reported in [11], and summarized here. However, in the current experiment, no treatments were applied to the subject beside thermal stimulation, thus the measurements were completely not-invasive.…”

“…This process associated with the expression of cytokines, as well as angiogenic factors such as VEGF. Moreover, that the smooth vascular muscles expand is to deliver oxygen for connective tissue and also increased blood flow velocity 20) . It was well known that FIR energy radiation can heat and activate blood circulation of living bodies 21,22) .…”
