Reconstruction of a Full-Thickness Ear Defect

Abstract

A 61-year-old man presented with a biopsy-proven basal cell carcinoma (BCC) of the right upper helix. At surgical consultation, an erythematous pearly plaque with thick crust was identified. The first stage of micrographic surgery revealed infiltrative BCC abutting cartilage. Tumor-free margins were achieved in 2 stages. The final size of the defect was 4.0 cm, with significant loss of the upper helical and antihelical cartilage (Figure 1
