Reciprocating sliding of polyester textile fabric composites along different fabric orientations

Abstract: The coefficients of friction and wear rates of thermoset polyester matrix composites with plain woven polyester fabric reinforcement were studied during reciprocating sliding under adhesive line contact at 50 to 200 N normal loads and 0.3 to 1.2 m/s sliding velocities. The samples were prepared along different orientations of the fabric relatively to the sliding surface and sliding directions, including 0 , 30 , 45 , 60 and 90 in-plane directions and thickness z direction. The coefficients of friction and wear… Show more

“…It should be noted that such modifiers cause the presence of the additive in agglomerations, which is an eliminated phenomenon. Aspects related to the composition of composites concern not only the modifiers themselves, but also the reinforcement used in the form of fabrics [ 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 ].…”

“…With the development of the aviation industry, the service life and bearing capacity of fabric composites are required to reach a higher level to deal with the more severe working conditions. As the key part of fabric composites, the fabrics are usually composed of different kinds of high performance fibers such as PTFE (self-lubricating function) and Nomex (reinforcing function), which together with the resin polymer enable fabric composites the characteristics of designability, high specific strength, fatigue resistance and light weight [6][7][8][9]. For the fabric weaving, parameters such as thickness, layer numbers and yarn types is correlated with the weave structure, thus influence the wettability property, adhesion property, wear debris capturing ability and load-carrying ability of the composites [10][11][12][13].…”
