Recent recovery of the boreal spring sensible heating over the Tibetan Plateau will continue in CMIP6 future projections

Abstract: The spring sensible heating (SH) over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) serves as a huge 'air pump', significantly influencing the Asian summer monsoon, has experienced a decreasing trend. However, it remains unclear whether this decline will continue. Therefore, we here examine the long-term trends of spring SH over the central and eastern TP (CETP) based on a meteorological station-based calculated SH dataset, and CMIP6 multi-model simulations. These two sources confirmed the previous finding that the SH peaks in May… Show more

“…Moreover, compared with those in CMIP5, GCMs participating in CMIP6 have finer resolutions and more complicated physical processes. With the availability of the state‐of‐the‐art GCMs, some researchers have analyzed the simulations in China, including the mean climate and climate extremes (Wang et al, 2019; Xin et al, 2020; Zhou et al, 2020). However, few comprehensive studies on the surface wind speed over China have been conducted.…”

“…The negative values are mostly found in the relatively dry western part of the region, where increasing the temperature could lead to higher evaporation and drier conditions, limiting vegetation growth. The positive coefficients occur more frequently in the relatively humid east, where higher temperature could lead to better thermal conditions and longer sun duration for photosynthesis, hence promoting vegetation growth [59,60].…”

“…The median of the multi‐reanalysis products is computed, which can reduce the influence by extremely large and small values (Wang et al ., 2019). Relationships ( r ) between climate variables (DSR, DLR, SCF, WS, and BLH) and Δ T within the same reanalysis product are detected using the Pearson correlation analysis.…”
