Recent Progress on Luminescent Metal-Organic Framework-Involved Hybrid Materials for Rapid Determination of Contaminants in Environment and Food

Abstract: The high speed of contaminants growth needs the burgeoning of new analytical techniques to keep up with the continuous demand for monitoring and legislation on food safety and environmental pollution control. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a kind of advanced crystal porous materials with controllable apertures, which are self-assembled by organic ligands and inorganic metal nodes. They have the merits of large specific surface areas, high porosity and the diversity of structures and functions. Latterly, t… Show more

“…Severe pollution of earth’s hydrosphere by detrimental chemicals has raised global concerns to human health and ecological systems. ( Samanta et al, 2019 ; Yao et al, 2020 ) For instance, Fe 3+ ion is one of the vital ions existing in the living organism and plays essential role in transportation of oxygen molecule through blood. It also has a fundamental role in the formation of haemoglobin, enzyme and proteins.…”

“…On the other hand, luminescence-based sensory materials have shown several advantages, for instance, fast response time, ease of performance, distinct signal outputs, low cost, high sensitivity, and low detection limit. ( El Rassi, 1997 ; Zhu et al, 2013 ; Wang et al, 2015 ; Senthilkumar et al, 2018 ; Guo et al, 2019 ; Yao et al, 2020 ) Although, several homogenous sensors have been developed, ( Ma et al, 2019 ), quest of heterogeneous sensor is indispensable owing to their advantages like separation, eco-friendly nature and multicyclic regeneration properties. ( Liu et al, 2016 ; Vikrant et al, 2018 ; Zhao et al, 2018 ; Yan, 2019 ) In this milieu, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have grown as most fascinating porous, heterogonous scaffolds with well defined-crystalline materials, and recently used as probes for luminescent sensing of diverse lethal pollutants.…”

“…[211] Yao and co-authors summarized the rapid determination of contaminants in food by employing luminescent MOFs. [212] Recently, Wu et al developed a highly luminescent europium Eu-MOF, i.e., LMOF-241 emission spectra from the LMOF-241 at Aflatoxin B1 concentrations of 0 ppb (black), 46 ppb (red), 91 ppb (green), 134 ppb (orange), and 177 ppb (blue). “…Metal-organic materials have received great attention in recent years, because of the metal-ligand interaction, which can form three-dimensional structures, such as metal-organic frameworks (MOF) and metal-organic gels (MOG); these materials have already presented promising applications for supercapacitors, sensing, catalysis and optoelectronics [1][2][3][4][5]. MOG preparation is simpler, involving hydrogen bonding interactions, π-π stacking, van der Waals forces and coordination bonds under mild conditions to form self-assembled supramolecular structures [6,7].…”
