Recent progress in the synthesis of oxide films from liquid solutions

Abstract: This review surveys recent advances in the synthesis of oxide materials, primarily as supported thin films but also in other forms such as free-standing films, mesoporous solids, and nanostructured fibers, from liquid (primarily aqueous) solutions. New studies using chemical bath deposition (CBD), liquid phase deposition (LPD), and successive ion layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) to produce single-and multi-component oxide films, and the role that functionalized substrates can play in these deposition tech… Show more

“…Solution based coating using aqueous precursors to deposit a thin metal film such as by chemical bath deposition and electrochemical deposition are used where the substrate to be coated is sensitive to heat In chemical bath deposition, the substrate to be coated is immersed in an alkaline solution containing the metal ion [59,60]. The oxide is grown on the surface via hydrolysis of the cations which are then precipitated onto the substrate as an oxide.…”

“…Table 14.1 summarizes the oxide materials (and a few sulfides) that have been deposited in the form of thin films via these techniques or with the use of organic self-assembled monolayer surfaces (vide infra). Recent reviews [2,18,19] provide further details about these films and give citations to the original reports.…”

In some cases metal hydroxide thin fi lms are deposited and subsequently converted into oxide fi lms [156] . To obtain good -quality and cheaper semiconductor thin fi lms, several optimized experimental conditions have been developed and the infl uence of various factors such as temperature, concentration, stirring, and others has been studied.…”
