“…Gold and, by extension, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been used in applications such as electronics, catalysis, and biomedicine due to the many advantageous properties that they possess [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. Synthesis of AuNPs can be tailored depending on the desired uses, and AuNPs are also deemed to be suitable for biomedical applications due to their low toxicity and ability to penetrate deep into cells [7,9,[16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23]. Many applications for AuNPs have been developed including as drug carriers, tumor imaging, hyperthermia, etc [16][17][18].…”

“…Spherical Au nanoparticles have been widely utilized in cancer treatment, mainly thanks to their unique physicochemical properties, their excellent biocompatibility, and particularly their characteristic surface plasmon resonance absorbance with specific wavelengths [ 19 , 20 ]. Spherical Au nanoparticles can be applied for cancer treatment in several ways such as photothermal therapy, radiotherapy, tumor imaging, and serving as drug delivery systems [ 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 ].…”

“…Combining noble metal-based nanotechnology with diagnostic methods and therapies (from traditional radiotherapy to emerging immunotherapy) has improved the accuracy and efficiency of cancer diagnosis and treatment ( Jiao et al, 2016 ; Mohammadniaei et al, 2019 ; Zhan et al, 2021 ). Gold NPs are the most frequently utilized noble metal NPs in tumor diagnosis and treatment due to their unique radiosensitizing properties, good biocompatibility, and relatively low toxicity ( Boisselier and Astruc, 2009 ; Kovács et al, 2022 ; Li et al, 2022 ). Studies have also shown that GNPs may possess certain targeting properties, as demonstrated by the fact that GNPs selectively act on heparin-binding proteins, such as EGFR and VEGFR-2 ( Mukherjee et al, 2005 ; Huang et al, 2021 ; Zhao et al, 2022 ).…”
