“…This is distinct from group psychotherapy with married couples, although most authors have combined these two group approaches incorrectly into a single group marital approach. Grunebaum et al (1969) and Skynner (1980) have described guidelines to assist the 'marital diagnostician' in prescribing the appropriate couples treatment on the basis of presenting problem, length of marriage, marital dynamics and commitment to the marriage. According to this diagnostic framework, therapy is indicated when a couple present their marital problem as a way of life, where blame is always focussed on the other partner and when neither can remember a time when the relationship was happy.…”
