Recent developments in dermoscopy for dermatology

Abstract: Background: Dermoscopy is considered to be a bridge between clinical observation and histopathological examination, allowing the in vivo examination of skin microstructures that are not visible to the naked eye, from the epidermis to the superficial dermis. Dermoscopy has undergone rapid development, witnessing the history from natural light to polarized light, from handheld dermoscopy to videodermoscopy, and from classic dermoscopy to digital dermoscopy. Its application extends from the initial differential d… Show more

“…Dermoscopy is a noninvasive diagnostic technique that allows the in vivo examination of skin micro-structures that are not visible to the naked eye, from the epidermis to the superficial dermis. 12 Generalized erythema, yellowish structureless patches, arborizing telangiectasias, and white scar-like areas appear to be typical dermoscopic hallmarks of neutrophilic-rich granulomatous inflammation, including leishmaniasis and deep mycosis. 13 In our study, dermoscopy reveals generalized erythema, clustered pustules, a yellowish structureless area, and vellus hair loss.…”

“…Dermoscopy is a highly practical and effective tool that waives the need for histopathological confirmation in the diagnosis of a myriad of diseases [28]. Nail psoriasis represents a significant challenge due to its association with uncertainty in its diagnosis, especially in isolated cases [1].…”

“…202200064 Intravital microscopy (IVM) in particular [2][3][4][5] has been gaining interest as it allows dynamic serial imaging of specific cells, [6] biological processes, and drug action [7,8] in an intact microenvironment. Borrowing concepts from IVM, clinical counterparts such as fluorescence guided surgery, [9] dermoscopy, [10] and confocal endomicroscopy [11] have also been developed in the hope to ultimately perform molecular analyses in vivo ("optical biopsies"). [12] Current fluorescence IVM approaches typically harness the entire optical spectrum and combined with fluorescent reporters allow imaging of approximately four to six targets in vivo before spectral overlap becomes a technical limitation.…”
