Recent advances in organic reactions catalyzed by graphene oxide and sulfonated graphene as heterogeneous nanocatalysts: a review

Abstract: Over the past decade, the application of carbocatalyst systems has been preferred over that of homogeneous catalytic systems because of their advantages such as physical and thermal stability of the catalysts in successive reaction runs and reusability.

“…In this work, we have developed a methodology to carry out the substitution of allylic alcohols with different ortho-, meta-and para-substituted anilines by using a recyclable metal-free catalyst, being possible to scale it up to 10 mmol (Scheme 1c). reported metal-free heterogeneous catalysts include carbocatalysts (graphene-type materials) 46,47 and supported organocatalysts, either on organic (covalent organic frameworks) 48 or inorganic (silica-based materials) 49,50 supports. As far as we know, all the heterogeneous organocatalysts found in the literature depend upon a support.…”

“…In addition, such catalysts also showed better reactivity, selectivity and superior stability when compared to the other supported and unsupported counterparts . In this regards, carbon materials, such as graphene, have been considered as an interesting support due to their large surface area, thermal and chemical stability, and active cites . The combination of nanocarbon materials and heterogeneous catalytic systems is an important key to the significant activity and reusability of the catalysts.…”
