Recent advances in horizontal alveolar bone regeneration

Abstract: Alveolar bone loss is widespread in all age groups and remains a severe hazard to periodontal health. Horizontal alveolar bone loss is the pattern of bone loss more commonly seen in periodontitis. Until now, limited regenerative procedures have been applied to treating horizontal alveolar bone loss in periodontal clinics, making it the least predictable periodontal defect type. This article reviews the literature on recent advances in horizontal alveolar bone regeneration. The biomaterials and clinical and pre… Show more

“…Part of periodontitis patients have bone defects, promoting bone regeneration in the area to restore normal chewing function is particularly important for patients with periodontitis combined with bone defects ( Li et al, 2023 ). The repair and regeneration of bone defects is a challenging and highly demanding research.…”

“…Guided bone regeneration is a frequently applied and predictable technique to restore bone defects in the maxillofacial region. Depending on the defect’s morphology and severity of bone loss, concepts such as vertical and horizontal bone regeneration have been widely explored [ 40 , 41 , 42 ]. These two aspects strongly influence the type, extent, and prognosis of the rehabilitation procedure [ 43 ].…”
