Receiver design for the uplink of base station cooperation systems employing SC-FDE modulations

Abstract: The presented paper considers the uplink transmission in base station (BS) cooperation schemes where mobile terminals (MTs) in adjacent cells share the same physical channel. We consider single-carrier with frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE) combined with iterative frequency-domain receivers based on the iterative block decision feedback equalization (IB-DFE). We study the quantization requirements when sending the received signals, from different MTs, at different BSs to a central unit that performs the s… Show more

“…For instance, in [8,9], the authors discussed power allocation under various criteria for a downlink NOMA system. In order to improve the system throughput, a network NOMA technique was proposed and analysed for the uplink coordinated multi-point transmission (CoMP) in [10].Cooperative communications is another solution to mitigate the fading effects of wireless environments [11]. NOMA in cooperative communication systems is commonly referred to as cooperative-NOMA (C-NOMA), which is able to enhance the system reliability [12].…”

“…However, this approach is only accurate for quantizers with high quantization levels but no saturation effects. Since the signals that are received at each BS present Gaussian-like characteristics, it is possible to obtain the quantization noise variance according to [13], as long as the signal to be quantized has a flat spectrum [14]. Gaussian approximation is reasonable for multipath channels, even with a single user.…”

“…This paper considers the uplink of BS cooperation systems where each MT employs a SC-FDE modulation scheme [9]. The combined signals received at a given BS are sent to a CPU via RoF technology, in which the electro-optic and opticelectric conversions are done through a Mach-Zehnder (MZ) modulator [10].…”
