Functional parts require high a level of strength and the current Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) cannot be fully utilized as the end used parts. The poor mechanical strength is caused by the incomplete layer bonding during the printing process. In the printing process, the interlayer bonding is made too quick thus the layers are not fully fused together causing the reduced tensile strength. This paper presents a possible solution to this problem by incorporating vacuum technology in FDM system to improve tensile strength of 3D printed specimens. In this study, a desktop FDM machine was placed and operated inside a low pressure vacuum chamber. The results obtained show an improvement of 12.83 % of tensile strength compared to the standard specimen. This paper concludes that the low pressure environment is useful in reducing the heat loss due to convection of air, hence directly improves the specimen's tensile strength.

Scheduling and rescheduling play vital roles in ensuring the effectiveness of the production control in flexible manufacturing system (FMS). The failure of these systems may interrupt the efficiency of the production activities and thus may lessen the profit to be gained by the company. The FMS scheduling problem is considered as dynamic as new orders may get in every day. The new orders need to be immediately desegregated with the existing production schedule by preserving the efficiency and stability of the existing schedule. This research applies the non-reshuffle-based genetic match-up algorithms which admit new orders by manipulating available machine idle times to address rescheduling problem in a FMS that practises the pull strategy. The idea of the match-up approach is to update only a part of the initial schedule and genetic algorithms used to optimise the solution within the rescheduling horizon in such a way in order to preserve the efficiency and stability of the shop floor. The proposed methodology has been tested using different rescheduling parameters. The experiments show that the rescheduling method improves efficiency and stability of the new schedule.

In the Philippine construction industry, choices of formwork methodology is critical to contractors or client/project managers. Cost and time are the parameters commonly considered to address which method is recommended for a project. In this study, simulation using BIM was made from input parameters taken from actual project observations and data collection from five projects. Two methods were considered: method A (traditional forms) and method B (steel decks). The output parameters after the BIM simulation were processed cost and time. A statistical t-test was conducted for both process costs and time durations to differentiate between the two methods. It was found out that the process costs for overall, columns, and beams of method A were not statistically different from method B, while the slab process cost was significantly different. This indicated that only slab process cost was relatively expensive for method B. For the duration, both the columns and beams were not statistically different, while overall and slabs' duration was significantly different. It showed that overall duration and slab process duration is relatively lower for method B. This paper showed that BIM simulation could help managers in their decision on choosing the construction methodology to balance cost and time of their project.
