“…This additional topic is therefore the focus of the research question and analysis presented in this paper. Secondary analysis of qualitative data in this way is not uncommon and enables deeper understanding of particular issues arising in the data (Wästerfors, Åkerström, and Jacobsson 2014). Ethical approval was provided by the University of Reading Research Ethics Committee.…”

“…This theme was therefore excluded from the analysis and subsequent reporting of data for the earlier study. We determined that this theme contained content that was rich enough to justify a reexamination of related data, which constitutes this present report (Wasterfors et al, 2014; Yardley et al, 2014).…”

Secondary analysis can be utilized to reengage with data, offering further clarity and allowing researchers to “frame data in a new way” (Wasterfors, Akerstrom, & Jacobsson, 2014, p. 467). Best practices in secondary analysis necessitate a compelling new research question or lens through which to view the data, as well as a rationale for why the previous study was lacking or incomplete (Wasterfors et al, 2014; Yardley, Watts, Pearson, & Richardson, 2014).…”

“…In the final version of a Doctoral Thesis, the data recorded on any paper or electronic medium are documents with different types of information. The literature confirms this statement to be coupled with some examples that allow the use of data: Bernard & Ryan (2010) indicate the term secondary analysis of data, to designate the use of data of other investigations the problem implies lack of information; Wästerfors, Åkerström & Jacobsson (2014) speak in reanalysis of qualitative data is the analysis of the data of an investigation by another investigator different from that had done it. We could very easily go to one of these ways of reusing and seizing data, but the philosophy of this article indicates that before making any decision one has to have the notion of the type of information produced.…”
