Reactive Rules on the Web

Abstract: Reactive rules are used for programming rule-based, reactive systems, which have the ability to detect events and respond to them automatically in a timely manner. Such systems are needed on the Web for bridging the gap between the existing, passive Web, where data sources can only be accessed to obtain information, and the dynamic Web, where data sources are enriched with reactive behavior. This paper presents two possible approaches to programming rule-based, reactive systems. They are based on different kin… Show more

“…Finally reactive rules (production rules and Event-Condition-Action rules) (Berstel et al, 2007) describe the reactive behaviour through automatic execution of specific actions based on occurrence of events of interest (important for the dynamic nature of pervasive environments). Depending on the inference engine, rules can be executed through forward reasoning (i.e., data driven) or backward reasoning (i.e., goal driven).…”

“…Die Regeln arbeiten eng mit einer WirtsProgrammiersprache (z.B. Java) zusammen und spezifizieren Aktionen, die ausgeführt werden sollen, wenn bestimmte Zustände eintreten [3]. Die Zustände werden ausgedrückt als Bedingungenüber Objekte im sog.…”

“…For a holistic realization of the vision of web-based SCADA systems further research is necessary. Reactivity on the web [22]- [25], for example, requires a high-level, rule-based language for expressing complex reactions and workflows, and pushinstead of pull-model processing. Additionally, an abstract data model for families of tools, events, errors, etc.…”
