SUMMARYA virtual machine (VM) migration is useful for improving flexibility and maintainability in cloud computing environments. However, VM monitor (VMM)-bypass I/O technologies, including PCI passthrough and SR-IOV, in which the overhead of I/O virtualization can be significantly reduced, make VM migration impossible. This paper proposes a novel and practical mechanism, called Symbiotic Virtualization (SymVirt), for enabling migration and checkpoint/restart on a virtualized cluster with VMM-bypass I/O devices, without the virtualization overhead during normal operations. SymVirt allows a VMM to cooperate with a message passing layer on the guest OS, then it realizes VM-level migration and checkpoint/restart by using a combination of a user-level dynamic device configuration and coordination of distributed VMMs. We have implemented the proposed mechanism on top of QEMU/KVM and the Open MPI system. All PCI devices, including Infiniband, Ethernet, and Myrinet, are supported without implementing specific para-virtualized drivers; and it is not necessary to modify either of the MPI runtime and applications. Using the proposed mechanism, we demonstrate reactive and proactive FT mechanisms on a virtualized Infiniband cluster. We have confirmed the effectiveness using both a memory intensive micro benchmark and the NAS parallel benchmark.

In the centralized cloud controlled environment, the decision-making and monitoring play crucial role where in the host controller (HC) manages the resources across hosts in data center (DC). HC does virtual machine (VM) and physical hosts management. The VM management includes VM creation, monitoring, and migration. If HC down,the services hosted by various hosts in DC can't be accessed outside the DC. Decentralized VM management avoids centralized failure by considering one of the hosts from DC as HC that helps in maintaining DC in running state. Each host in DC has many VM's with the threshold limit beyond which it can't provide service.To maintain threshold , the host's in DC does VM migration across various hosts. The data in migration is in the form of plaintext, the intruder can analyze packet movement and can control hosts traffic. The incorporation of security mechanism on hosts in DC helps protecting data in migration. This paper discusses an approach for dynamic HC selection, VM selection and secure VM migration over cloud environment.

Abstract-Virtualization plays a very vital role in the big cloud federation. Live and Real-time virtual machine migration is always a challenging task in virtualized environment, different approaches, techniques and models have already been presented and implemented by many re-searchers. The aim of this work is to investigate various parameters of Real-time and live data migration of virtual machines in stateful and data context at the application level. The migration of one virtual machine to another requires some time depending on the network bandwidth, guest availability, hardware limitation overcomes, resource allocation, server reallocation, hypervisor compatibility and many more. To enhance and ensure the performance and optimization of the time this work presents the some analysis in the form of different time stacks in multiple piece of data stored in the virtual machines. To optimize the migration time virtual machine checkpoints are used in order to achieve the better results by using the xen hypervisor memory technique which dynamically allows the migration of the configured memory while the allocated memory could be discarded for a while. By this the bad memory remains un-migrated only the good memory consisting the used data would be migrated by means of Real-time.
