Reactive consolidation of virtual machines enabled by postcopy live migration

Abstract: Dynamic consolidation of virtual machines (VMs) through live migration is a promising technology for IaaS datacenters. VMs are dynamically packed onto fewer server nodes, thereby eliminating excessive power consumption. Existing studies on VM consolidation, however, are based on precopy live migration, which requires dozens of seconds to switch the execution hosts of VMs. It is difficult to optimize VM locations quickly on sudden load changes, resulting in serious violations of VM performance criteria. In this… Show more

“…The decentralized architecture proposed by the authors in [20] of their research paper where they proposed how the peer to peer distributed network is useful to do decentralized VM migration wherein they explained how nodes in DC forwards its own CPU utilization to itself and all other nodes in DC [10].…”

“…Attacker might do searchingwhether any host in DC is having misconfigured VLAN [24]. If an attacker finds such host, he can launch VLAN hopping attack [20] and can launch Man in middle attack by either using ARP spoofing or by using DNS poisoning [25]. The VM migration with ssh protocol described in Fig.…”

“…Such as post-copy migration technique has pointed out the cons of pre-copy migration [21,22]. Some experimental results shows that the downtime taken by post-copy migration for a VM being migrated is less than the time spend by the pre-copy migration [21].…”
