Reactive alumina–LaPO4 composite as machinable bioceramics

Abstract: Sintered Al 2 O 3-LaPO 4 composites were prepared using commercially available reactive alumina and phase pure lanthanum phosphate (LP), prepared by the reaction synthesis technique. LP content was varied between 10 and 50 wt% and sintering was carried out between 1400 and 1600 • C. Sintered composites were characterized for phase analysis, densification, strength, machinability, microstructure and bioactivity (in SBF solution) and biocompatibility (MTT assay protocol) studies. Composite nature was confirmed b… Show more

“…Primarily, characteristics peaks appeared at 2 θ (degree) of 14.10°, 19.79°, 25.03°, 28.78°, 31.25°, 41.58°, 47.46°, 52.87°, and 58.08° with the indication of monazite LaPO 4 , having a monoclinic structure. Furthermore, the obtained PXRD pattern of the synthesised LaPO 4 nanoparticles well agreed with the earlier report by Badolia et al 55,56…”
