Reactions of n-C₅H₅Co(CO)₂ and n-Me₃SiC₅H₄Co(CO)₂ with (XCN)₂ and X(CN)₂ (X = S or Se)

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p> The pseudohalogens (XCN)<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> (X = S or Se) react with n-C<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>H<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>Co(CO)<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> and n-Me<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>SiC<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>H<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>Co(CO)<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> with formation of the 18 electron complexes, RCo(CO)(XCN)<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> (R = n-C<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>H<jats:sub>5</jats:sub> or n-Me<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>SiC<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>H<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>). By reactions with X(CN)<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> (X = S or Se), the cyclopentadienyl cobalt dicarbonyls are transformed into the mixed complexes, RCo(CO)(CN)(XVN) (R = n-C<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>H<jats:sub>5</jats:sub> or n-Me<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>SiC<jats:sub>5</jats:sub>H<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>. All the compounds are characterized by elemental analysis, IR, electronic and <jats:sup>1</jats:sup>H NMR spectra. The thiocyanogen derivatives undergo linkage isomerism (N→S) in polar solvents.</jats:p>
