Reactions of Molybdate(VI) with Hydroxylamine and N‐Methylhydroxylamine

Abstract: Two remarkable molybdenum complexes have been isolated on recation of aqueous solutions of MoVI oxo anions with H2NOH or MeHNOH: the yellow NO complex (1) and the colorless NO‐free neutral complex (2). This shows that many yellow Mo complexes characterized only in solution pribably contain NO ligands.

“…1. Atomic coordinates and some relevant bond distances and angles are listed in Tables 1 and 2 The Mo-N distances 2.156 (3) and 2.169 (2) A are in the range observed for other molybdenum complexes, such as [Mo(H2NO)2(NO)(bpy)], (Mo-N)av = 2.189 A (Weighardt, Holzback, Weiss, Nuker & Prikner, 1979) and [Mo(OPri)2(bpy)2], (Mo-N)av= 2.118A (Chisholm, Huffman, Rothwell, Bradley, Kress & Woodruff, 1981). The bipyridine ligand parameters in [MoC14(bpy)]-do not vary significantly from those in the free ligand, which contains transnitrogen atoms.…”

“…The compound was prepared using a slight modification of an earlier preparation [17]. To a stirred, 40 mL aqueous solution of Na 2 MoO 4 AE 2H 2 O (7.20 g, 29.7 mmol) at 40°C, was added solid MeHNOH AE HCl (5.22 g, 62.5 mmol).…”

“…The slightly off-white [MoO 2 (Et 2 -NO) 2 ] (3) 2 was prepared as described previously [18]. The synthetic procedure was simplified as described below for the preparation of [MoO 2 (MeHNO) 2 ] (1) [17] and [MoO 2 (Me 2 NO) 2 ] (2) [18] [31] complexes were prepared as previously reported and their characterization was found to be satisfactory.…”
