“…Several authors also reported A. euteiches to be a pathogen of alfalfa ( Medicago sativa ) (Greenhalgh & Merriman, 1985), green bean ( Phaseolus vulgaris ) (Pfender & Hagedorn, 1982), broad bean ( Vicia faba ) (Lamari & Bernier, 1985) and clover ( Trifolium pratense , Tofte et al ., 1992; and Trifolium subterraneum , Burnett et al ., 1994). Many control measures have been tested (Papavizas & Ayers, 1974), but the only efficient way to control the disease identified to date is to avoid planting peas in contaminated fields and to ensure that there is an appropriate time interval between successive pea crops in the rotation (Carrouée et al ., 1995).…”

“…Aphanomyces euteiches has been isolated from a number of legume species: pea Levenfors et al 2003), faba bean (Salt and Delaney 1985;Lamari and Bernier 1985), vetch (Levenfors et al 2003), lentil (Lamari and Bernier 1985), alfafa (Malvick et al 1998), French bean (Salt and Delanay 1985), red clover (Tofte and Smith 1992), subterranean clover (Greenhalgh et al 1985), barrel medic (Moussart et al 2007) and several other plants (Chan and Close 1987). Isolates from different species may display some specificity for the species from which they were isolated.…”

“…A. euteiches is the most devastating pathogen of pea in several countries, with yearly losses that average 10% to 80% each year [16,172]. Significant yield losses have also been reported in alfalfa [220], clover [221], fava beans [222], and lentils [223]. Like A. cochlioides, A. euteiches is a strictly soil-borne pathogen that may survive up to 10 years in soil [26], and no efficient chemical control is currently available.…”
