“…The hitherto unprotected, degraded forest of Orangea is now being transformed into the National Park Oronjia. The protection of this area is of particular concern not only for the survival of the microendemic A. manga, but also harbors the highest density of critically endangered reptiles in Madagascar (Jenkins et al, 2014) and is home to Lepilemur septentrionalis, one of the most threatened primate species in the world (Ranaivoarisoa et al, 2013).…”

“…Our study was conducted over two field seasons from June to August 2016 (FS1) and February to May 2017 (FS2) at Montagne des Français, Madagascar, a region located ~12 km southeast of the seaport city of Antsiranana (Figure 2). MDF has an area of approximately 6500 ha and is composed of patches of dry, deciduous forest surrounding calcareous rock peaks (100–500 m; D'Cruze et al, 2007; Ranaivoarisoa et al, 2013; Sabel et al, 2009). Several other lemur species inhabit this region including aye‐aye ( Daubentonia madagascariensis ), crowned lemur ( E. coronatus ), and northern mouse lemurs ( Mirza tavaratra ).…”

“…NSLs are restricted to the Montagne des Français (MDF) forest region in northern Madagascar. At present, this species is considered one of the most endangered lemurs in Madagascar, with an estimated population of 87 known individuals (Bailey et al, 2020; Ranaivoarisoa et al, 2013). In this study, we conducted behavioral observations on individual northern sportive lemurs over two field seasons.…”

“…-Memecylon oblanceolatum is known from a single location on the Sahafary plateau and has an estimated EOO of 2 km2 and an AOO of 12 km2. The forest in this area has been severely degraded and evidently remains unprotected (Ranaivoarisoa et al, 2013). Memecylon oblanceolatum is thus provisionally assessed as "Critically Endangered" [CR B2ab(iii)] in accordance with the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria (IUCN, 2012).…”
