Memecylon L. (Melastomataceae, Olisbeoideae) is a widespread paleotropical genus of forest shrubs and small trees and is one of the ten most species-rich genera of woody plants in Madagascar. All of the Malagasy species are endemic to the island, and most of them are known from just one or two sites. SummaryWe emphasise the urgent need to conserve the Ebo forest (Littoral Region, Cameroon), which holds 10 strict endemic plant species and 15 near endemics for a total of 25, a very high number far exceeding the threshold for its recent status as an Important Plant Area (IPA). We describe a further strict endemic species from the Ebo Forest,Memecylon ebosp. nov. (Melastomataceae-Olisbeoideae) placed in sect.Afzelianadue to its ellipsoid blue-green fruits. The yellow petals and jade green anther-connectives ofM. eboare unique in the genusMemecylonas a whole, among its >400 species ranging overall from Africa to the western Pacific.Memecylon ebois assessed as Critically Endangered (CR) using the 2012 IUCN standard due to the small range size and the extremely high and ongoing threats of logging at Ebo, and also due to subsequent threats of potential oil palm plantation and mining projects. With the addition ofMemecylon ebo, the tally of Critically Endangered plant species recorded from Ebo forest is now the highest of any IPA in Cameroon, equalling that of, Ngovayang with 24 CR species.

Background and aims – Taxonomic knowledge of Acalypha in the Western Indian Ocean Region (WIOR; including Madagascar, Comoros, Mascarenes, Seychelles, and the Scattered Islands) has increased greatly in the last few years. This paper is the latest in a series of publications that have contributed to create a robust taxonomic framework for Acalypha in this region. Material and methods – The descriptions and illustrations of the new species are based on herbarium specimens and on some field images. Descriptions were made following standard procedures. Maps was prepared using QGIS software and preliminary conservation assessments was made following IUCN guidelines and criteria. Key results – Two species of Acalypha from northern Madagascar are described as new to science: Acalypha bardotiana sp. nov., found on the Montagne des Français (Diana region), and Acalypha inaequibracteata sp. nov., found in the Binara forest (Sava region). Line drawings, field images, distribution maps, and a discussion of their morphological and phylogenetic affinities, as well as the preliminary conservation assessments are provided.
