Rapid Phenotyping of C3 by Immunofixation on Cellulose Acetate Strips

Abstract: Determination of the genetically controlled variants of the C3 system has been accomplished by electrophoresis on cellulose acetate membrane followed by immunofixation with a specific anti‐C3 antiserum. The results have been confirmed with the use of reference sera and compared with those obtained from conventional high voltage agarose gel electrophoresis. The interference of some electrophoretic variables on the technique has been investigated. The method is rapid, accurate, reliable and gives good separation… Show more

“…Hp phenotyping was done by starch gel electropho resis according to Smithies |4| in 181 patients. Electro phoretic immunofixation on cellulose acetate strips, according to Grunbaum and Zajak [5] with minor mod ifications [6] was used to determine the phenotypes of GC and C3. In particular, the Beckman electrophoretic device ( Beckman Microzone R-101) with suitable strips (Cellogel.…”

“…Phenotyping of C3 was performed by the aid of a method of immunofixation on cellulose acetate strips, recently developed in our laboratory [3]. Spe cific antiserum to C3c complement (Dakopatts, Den mark) was used, and Helena Laboratoires Electro phoresis system was substituted for the Beckman Microzone system used in previous studies.…”
