Rank-ordering coefficients of variation for popping expansion

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The coefficient of variation (CV) has been the most important statistic to determine the precision of experimental errors, but an even classification for guiding popcorn breeders is still lacking for popping expansion. The normality of data from 50 CVs was tested through the Shapiro-Wilk test, and the mean (m), median, standard deviation (SD), maximum and minimum values, asymmetry and kurtosis were all determined using the momentum method. The CVs were ranked as low [CV < (m -1 SD)], moderate [(m -1 … Show more

“…The coefficients of variation (CVe) for GY and PE were within acceptable limits for agricultural experimentation, except for the experiment assessing the lines per se that showed CVe values of 24.62 and 26.00, respectively, considered high (Scapim et al 1995;Arnhold and Milani 2011;Fritsche Neto et al 2012). …”

“…The coefficient of variation (CV) has been used by researchers to describe the accuracy of their experiments (DinardoMiranda and Fracasso 2010; Araújo et al 2012;Granato et al 2014), since it gives a general indication of the variation levels using the standard deviation as a fraction of the mean (Arnhold andMilani 2011). Consequently, Pimentel-Gomes (1985) conducted a classification of the CVs obtained from agricultural studies, which were classified as low for values lower than 10%, moderate for values from 10 to 20%, high for values higher than 20 up to 30% and very high for values higher than 30%.…”
