Rainfall Simulation Using RegCM4 Model in Kalimantan during El Nino Southern Oscillation

Abstract: The performance of Regional Climate Model 4 (RegCM4) in simulating rainfall is evaluated through a comparison of several observations using Asian Precipitation-Highly Resolved Observational Data Integration towards Evaluation (APHRODITE) and Climate Research Unit (CRU) in 19-year simulation period of 1982-2000 in Kalimantan. The analysis includes the perormance of RegCM4 in capturing the rainfall type, the rainfall characteristics when ENSO, the error and the diversity of data, and dominant cycles in Kalimanta… Show more

“…These challenges are intensified by fragile ecosystems, low investment in agriculture and innovation, and strong competition for land (Dile, Karlberg, Temesgen, & Rockström, 2013; Nelson, Zak, Davine, & Pau, 2016; Trinh et al, 2013). Climate change impacts on food production can also increase food prices, which aggravate food insecurity (Arini, Hidayat, & Faqih, 2015; McNeill et al, 2017; Trinh et al, 2013).…”

“…The high CDD value in the southern part of Borneo is strongly suspected to be related to the rainfall pattern. The southern part of Borneo has a monsoon rainfall pattern (Arini et al, 2015;Aldrian and Susanto, 2007). In monsoon areas, rainfall is closely related to wind bends during the Asian and Australian monsoons.…”

“…Arini et al. (2015) state that the RegCM4 can explain rainfall type, the rainfall characteristics during ENSO over Kalimantan, Indonesia, which is characterized by deficient/excess rainfall El Nino/La Nina. However, the RCM capability in simulating the link between model and observation during ENSO is not competent (Ratnam et al., 2013).…”

“…The capability of RCM in representing the relationship between ENSO and rainfall has been performed over various regions of the South America (Da Rocha et al, 2014;Seth et al, 2007). Arini et al (2015) state that the RegCM4 can explain rainfall type, the rainfall characteristics during ENSO over Kalimantan, Indonesia, which is characterized by deficient/excess rainfall El Nino/La Nina.
