“…Since there are few, if any, radiologic findings in the early stage of ON of the knee despite the presence of severe pain, this may mislead physicians into making an erroneous diagnosis (18). Several investigators have recommended that MRI or bone scintigraphy be performed in order to make a precise diagnosis in the early stage of ON of the knee, when there are no distinct radiographic alterations (8, 23). Among the variables examined in our joint fluid analyses, we found that the ratio of C6S:C4S in ON knees was significantly higher throughout the developmental course of the disease, except for stage 4, than the ratio in OA knees.…”
