“…Siegman (1966), Singh and Sharma (1978), Mosher (1969), Andry (1960), Medinnus (1965), McCord and McCord (1958), and Bach and Bremer (1947) have all found associations between paternal deprivation and delinquency, criminality, and antisocial behavior. Inadequate fathering has also been linked to a wide variety of pathological and maladaptive behavior and conditions, including schizophrenia (Gerard & Siegel, 1950), drug abuse (Lieberman, 1974), poor cognitive development (Shinn, 1978), low self-esteem (Hunt & Hunt, 1975), and hypermasculine behavior (Lynn & Sawrey, 1959; Miller, 1958). This extensive array of adverse correlates of “paternal deprivation” (Biller, 1974) suggests that, if there is indeed a causal link between inadequate fathering and sexual aggression, it is probably a predisposing factor rather than an exclusive link.…”

“…Yao (1985) found the highly structured family life of Asian-American students accounted for their high achievement. Hunt and Hunt (1975) found that broken homes lower the achievement of African-American females but not males. Steinberg et al have shown that the parenting practices that most effectively support school performance vary by race and ethnicity.…”

“…Racial comparisons of fathering also have yielded inconsistent results (Glauber and Gozjolko 2001; Swisher and Waller 2008). Similar structural conditions may produce different outcomes for different racial groups: For example, Hunt and Hunt (1975) associate father absence with negative outcomes for white, but not Black, sons. Writing four decades later, Schwartz and Finley (2005) indicate that divorce carries more negative implications for Black sons than for white and Asian American sons.…”
