Rabbit plasma pretransferrin system: evidence for three new alleles

Abstract: Three additional pretransferrin types have been identified by one-dimensional PAGE technique in New Zealand White and Californian rabbits. The six alleles are designated PrtA, PrtB, PrtC, PrtD, PrtE and PrtF. It is likely that three of these six alleles are identical to those reported previously.

“…Genetic polymorphism of a rabbit serum pretransferrin (Prt) was reported by Usher et al (1983,1984) and by other workers (Juneja et al 1984;Varga et al 1986Varga et al ,1987. The Prts described by these different authors are very likely to be identical, but direct evidence is lacking.…”

“…Genetic polymorphism of several plasma proteins has previously been described in rabbit, i.e. transferrin (Arana et al 1987;Ferrand et al 1988), haemopexin (Grunder 1966), a1B-glycoprotein (Varga et al 1986), albumin (Ferrand & Rocha 1992), and third and sixth components of complement (Geserick et al 1980;Kunstmann & Mauff 1980). A preliminary survey of lowconcentration plasma proteins revealed the existence of a number of highly polymorphic loci in rabbit (Branco et al 1996).…”
