Quinone Electrode for Long Lifespan Potassium-Ion Batteries Based on Ionic Liquid Electrolytes

Abstract: As a class of flexible and designable materials, organic electrode materials would greatly facilitate the progress of potassium-ion batteries (PIBs), especially when the dissolution issue is ameliorated. Ionic liquid electrolytes (ILEs) do not merely alleviate the dissolution of organic materials but provide reliable security. Herein, Pillar[5]quinone (P5Q) as the cathode of PIBs is demonstrated for the first time, and the electrochemical performance of two common ILEs is investigated. In the 0.3 M KFSI-PY13F… Show more

“…On the other hand, Potassium, which is the same family member as lithium, has become one of the effective alternatives. In particular, in the last 5 years, the study on PIBs has been conducted rapidly [71]. Of course, the progress in PIBs is inseparable from the research basis of LIBs.…”

“…Among them, polymerization has become the most standardized choice for the design of OEMs. Especially, the lately hotspot materials of MOFs and covalent organic frameworks (COFs), which could contain large pores in organic batteries, have been consecutively reported to show new breakthroughs [71,80]. Some challenges in this direction are the synthesis methods and the yield of products, etc [81].…”

“…ILs are liquids at room temperature composed of a pair of cation and anion-like salts. They usually feature low vapor pressure, high ionic conductivity, non-flammability, and wide EWs [ 57 , 58 ]. In particular, the exclusion of solvents ingeniously avoids obvious concentration gradients when both cations and anions are concurrently involved in electrode reactions.…”

“…In our previous reports, graphitic onion-like carbon (GOC) with a concentric arrangement of carbon layers has good electrical conductivity and structural stability, which provides a new opportunity to improve the performance of alkali metal battery storage materials. , However, the diffusion limitation of ions within graphite has been demonstrated to be the primary obstacle limiting kinetics . Despite the superior cyclic stability of GOC, the inadequate K + intercalation layer spacing and low active sites of GOC hinder its application as a high-power anode material in PIBs.…”
