a b s t r a c tFood safety, especially with respect to pesticide-contaminated products, has received considerable attention in recent years. In this study, the effects of food processing steps on pesticide residues in apples were analyzed on the basis of processing factors (PFs) via a chemometric approach. Based on the PFs data, the removal efficiencies of beta-cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos, tebuconazole, acetamiprid, and carbendazim were optimized using a chemometric tool equipped with a central composite design (CCD). Several enzymatic treatment parameters that affect the removal efficiency of the processing procedure were investigated using a CCD screening design. Afterward, the identified significant factors were optimized to determine the optimum removal conditions. The results showed that the residue levels of these five pesticides in commercial juice may be further decreased using a reconstitution step. Apples with pesticide residue levels lower than the maximum residue levels can be assessed, and the resulting apple juice can be consumed directly.

A sensitive and selective confirmatory method for milk-residue analysis of ten quinolones and eight cephalosporins by LC-MS/MS has been developed herein. For the chromatographic separation of target analytes, a Perfectsil ODS-2 (250 × 4 mm, 5 μm) analytical column was used and gradient elution was applied, using a mobile phase of 0.1% w/w TFA in water and 0.1% w/w TFA in ACN. Ultrasound-assisted matrix solid-phase dispersion procedure was applied for the extraction and clean-up procedure of antimicrobials agents from milk matrix using a mixture of Bond Elut Plexa sorbent and QuEChERS. The method was validated meeting the European Legislation determining selectivity, linearity response, trueness, precision (repeatability and between-day reproducibility), decision limit, detection capability, and ruggedness following the Youden approach. Recoveries of all antibiotics ranged from 81.7 to 117.9%, while RSD values were lower than 13.7%. Limits of quantification for all examined compounds ranged from 2.4 to 15.0 μg/kg, substantially lower than the maximum residue limits established by the European Union (30-100 μg/kg).

15 16 The determination of triazines in oranges using a GC/MS system coupled to a programmed 17 temperature vaporizer (PTV) inlet in the context of legislation is performed. Both 18 pretreatment (using a Quick Easy Cheap Effective Rugged and Safe (QuEChERS) procedure) 19 and injection steps are optimized using D-optimal experimental designs for reducing the 20 experimental effort. The relative dirty extracts obtained and the elution time shifts make it 21 necessary to use a PARAFAC2 decomposition to solve these two usual problems in the 22 chromatographic determinations. The "second-order advantage" of the PARAFAC2 23 decomposition allows unequivocal identification according to document SANCO/12495/2011 24 (taking into account the tolerances for relative retention time and the relative abundance for 25 the diagnostic ions), avoiding false negatives even in the presence of unknown co-eluents. 26The detection limits (CCα) found, from 0.51 to 1.05 µg kg -1 , are far below the maximum 27 residue levels (MRLs) established by the European Union for simazine, atrazine, 28 terbuthylazine, ametryn, simetryn, prometryn and terbutryn in oranges. No MRL violations 29 were found in the commercial oranges analysed. 30 31
