Quartz surface microtextural studies of Cauvery River sediments, Tamil Nadu, India

Abstract: The spatially distributed sand samples of the Cauvery River sediments in Tamil Nadu were investigated with respect to their surface microtextural features in north-east (NE) and south-west (SW) monsoon rainfall seasons. The quartz grains show distinct surface microtextures with unique mechanical, chemical and morphological features with respect to the sedimentation process. The mechanical features like conchoidal fractures with arcuate steps indicate that the sand grains were derived from crystalline rocks. Th… Show more

“…In the microcosmic research of sediments, quartz sand surface microtextures have been widely applied in the reconstruction of sedimentary environments (Sweet and Soreghan, 2010;Vos et al, FIGURE 12 Quartz sand surface microtextures of the ODs in the Diexi region (modified from Chen et al, 2019). 2014; Gobala krishnan et al, 2015). Based on the statistical results of quartz grain surface microtextures in ODs, it indicates that the combination of mechanical microtextures changes obviously along the transporting distance of the ODs (Chen et al, 2019).…”
