Quantitative measurement of global crosstalk for 3D display

Abstract: A photo‐detecting system based on photo‐detector with calibrated optical response is developed to characterize the global crosstalk of three‐dimensional (3D) displays over the entire display screen. Local screens areas are investigated, revealing that the crosstalk can be very inhomogeneous over the entire screens for typical stereoscopic display and autostereoscopic display. New quantification parameters for crosstalk, including average crosstalk and crosstalk uniformity, are introduced to give a panorama vie… Show more

“…In conclusion, we present an overall crosstalk evaluation based on camera with photosensitivity calibration for measuring crosstalk distribution of the whole screen. By these planar measurement, the overall crosstalk can be measured by just two photos which shows much greater time efficiency and measurement consistency than multi-points global crosstalk detection [6] . And this method can make the description of ghosting more in line with the visual perception of viewers.…”

“…The crosstalk of a certain viewpoint is defined as the ratio of the luminance superimposed value leaked from other viewpoints to the viewpoint luminance value. The crosstalk quantization is defined as the 3D crosstalk of a single viewpoint is based on the result of the measured luminance value of a single viewpoint in the corresponding spatial position and the dark state luminance value of the display screen [22]. As shown in Equation 4.…”

“…So that sub-pixels located at the junction of the lens unit are assigned to more than one lens unit, then the light emitted by the sub-pixels at the junction enters two view zones, which causing the crosstalk of the viewpoints [4], [5]. Crosstalk is the primary factor determining the image quality of autostereoscopic displays, which causes the stereoscopic images difficult to fuse and lack fidelity [6], [7].…”
