Quantitative analysis of ginsenosides Rb1, Rg1, and Re in American ginseng berry and flower samples by ELISA using monoclonal antibodies

Abstract: Quantitative analysis of ginsenosides Rb1, Rg1, and Re in American ginseng berry and flower samples, which were collected in various months throughout the year, was performed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using monoclonal antibodies. The American ginseng flower had the highest content of ginsenosides Rb1, Rg1, and Re (GRb1, GRg1, and GRe). The content of GRb1, GRg1, and GRe decreased in going from young through to ripe berry.

“…Furthermore, the GC-KO extract was prepared from LE using an anti-GC mAb-coupled immunoaffinity column. Our laboratory has previously prepared mAbs against natural bioactive compounds such as ginsenosides [5,54,55], berberine [10], crocin [2], sennosides [12], and forskolin [1]. Moreover, the immunoaffinity columns coupled with anti-G-Rb 1 [17], anti-forskolin [15], anti-solasodine glycoside [16], and anti-GC mAbs [18] achieved one-step purification of target compounds from crude extracts.…”

“…The ginseng berry has many unique bioactive constituents compared to the generally used ginseng root. Through various assays [13,[119][120][121][122], a new triterpenoid saponin, isoginsenoside-Rh3 [123], alkaloid ginsenine [124] and a dammarane-type triterpene ketone, panaxadione [125,126], were isolated. Interestingly, ginsenoside-free molecules promote ethanol metabolism [127].…”
