“…Change in tumor size takes time (for example at least after two to three treatment cycles) [ 1 ]. Therefore, some functional methods [ 14 ], such as contrast-enhanced ultrasound [ 11 ], MRI [ 16 ] and fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG PET) [ 6 ], have been researched to assess NAC treatment response. However, contrast-enhanced ultrasound was invasive and still pending for approval of microbubble contrast agents for this indication.…”

“…In addition, MVD is one of the gold standards for the assessment of angiogenesis and vascular normalization. 27 Mori et al 33 reported that the parameters of CEUS, such as PI, was significantly correlated with MVD in breast cancer ( r =0.43). The correlation exhibited a significant difference ( P =0.0073).…”

“…Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is of interest because of its ability to glean macrovascular and microvascular information about organs and to aid our understanding of the complexity of angiogenesis in different types of tumors [9][10][11][12][13]. CEUS is a quantitative kinetic imaging modality that assesses intravascular blood flow in breast tumors even at the capillary level [14][15][16][17][18][19]. We hypothesized that changes in the pharmacokinetics of contrast material would reflect early neovascular changes in breast tumors during NAC and could be detected by CEUS, thereby allowing assessment of the early response to therapeutic agents.…”
