In the present study, a microwave treatment process has been applied to prepare orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs) containing powdered tea leaves with enriched levels of the anti-inflammatory compounds such as chafuroside A (CFA) and chafuroside B (CFB). The use of distilled water as the adsorbed and granulation solvents in this preparation process afforded tablets with a long disintegration time (more than 120 s). The CFA and CFB contents of these tablets did not also change after 4 min of microwave irradiation due to the tablet temperature, which only increased to 100°C. In contrast, the tablet temperature increased up to 140°C after 3 min of microwave irradiation when a 1.68 M Na 2 HPO 4 solution instead of distilled water. Notably, the disintegration time of these tablets was considerably improved (less than 20 s) compared with the microwaveuntreated tablets, and there were 7-and 11-fold increases in their CFA and CFB contents. In addition, the operational conditions for the preparation of the tablets were optimized by face-centered composite design based on the following criteria: tablet hardness greater than 13 N, disintegration time less than 30 s and friability less than 0.5%. The requirements translated into X 1 (the amount of granulation solvent), X 2 (tableting pressure) and X 3 (content of the powdered tea leaves) values of 45%, 0.43 kN and 32%, respectively, and the ODTs containing powdered tea leaves prepared under these optimized conditions were found to show excellent tablet properties and contain enriched levels of CFA and CFB.

Summary. Scutellaria L. is a diverse genus of the Lamiaceae (Labiatae) family of over 300 herbaceous plants commonly known as skullcaps. Various species of Scutellaria are used as ethnobotanical herbs for the treatment of ailments like cancer, jaundice, cirrhosis, anxiety, and nervous disorders. Scutellaria incana L., commonly known as the Hoary skullcap, is a traditional medicinal plant used by native Americans as a sedative for nervousness or anxiety. S. incana metabolites were identified by comparing their highperformance liquid chromatography (HPLC) retention times and mass spectra with those of the corresponding authentic standards. Where standards were unavailable, the structures were characterized on the basis of their tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) spectra following collision-induced dissociation (CID) and the accurate masses of the corresponding deprotonated molecules [M-H] − (mass accuracy ± 5 ppm). A total of 40 flavonoids, including two phenolic glycosides, were identified from leaves, stems, and roots of S. incana. Differences in the flavonoid composition between leaves, stems, and roots in S. incana were observed although the flavonoid profile of S. incana is consistent with other Scutellaria species. Further work should focus on assessing the potential of S. incana as a source of these bioactive metabolites.

N‐Alkylated C‐Glycosyl Amino Acid Derivatives: Synthesis by a One‐Pot Four‐Component Ugi Reaction

C‐glycosides represent an important group of naturally occurring glycosylation derivatives but are also efficient mimetics of native O‐glycosides. Here, a one‐pot four‐component methodology is described toward a library of N‐alkylated C‐glycosyl amino acid derivatives comprising seven different isopropylidene‐protected carbohydrate units. The applied methodology tolerates different amines and isocyanides and provides access to Ugi products in yields up to 85 %. X‐ray analysis of selected products bearing three different carbohydrate motifs and comparison of their crystal structures with similar ones deposited in Cambridge Crystallographic Database revealed that four structures adopt different conformations, mostly not typical for peptide structures. This property opens the possibility to exploit here described N‐alkylated C‐glycosyl amino acid derivatives as templates to access different biotic and abiotic secondary structures.
