Quantifying differences in total tract nutrient digestibilities between goats and sheep

Abstract: Conclusions from narrative qualitative reviews on differences in total tract digestibilities between goats and sheep did not account for variability among studies. Therefore meta-analytic techniques were used to describe the magnitude of these differences with numerical values. A unitless effect size (Hedges' g) was applied within studies to measure differences in digestibilities of dry matter (DM; 104 comparisons), organic matter (OM; 93 comparisons), crude protein (CP; 85 comparisons), neutral detergent fibr… Show more

“…For poor diets, despite the old results of Devendra (1978), the debate is still running regarding differences in digestive efficiency between goats and other ruminants, but the digestibility seems to be similar with good diets (Sales et al, 2012).…”

“…This is consistent with the fact that, for similar mixed diets, the rumen pH of goat is higher by about 0.4 point compared to cattle (Sauvant et al ., 2018c). “…Известно, что генотипические особенности отражаются на активности функционирования регуляторных систем, что сопровождается изменениями в интенсивности и направленности пищеварительных и обменных процессов. Вследствие различий в адаптивных возможностях пищеварительного аппарата у животных разных генотипов в желудочно-кишечном тракте создаются специфические условия, влияющие на активность микроорганизмов и биосинтез метаболитов [19][20][21][22][23].…”

“…Biological substantiation of complete feeding of animals requires consistent studies of the processes of nutrition, digestion and metabolism [11][12][13][14]. Only a uniform tension in the work of a multi-chamber stomach of ruminants at the optimum for this type of combination in the diet of coarse, juicy and concentrated feed can greatly enhance the digestive capacity of the stomach and intestines.…”
