Quality of life, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with major depression: a prospective cohort study in primary care

Abstract: IntroductionRecent studies with depressed patients in primary care settings have demonstrated that these patients have several depressionrelated problems such as high rates of comorbidity, low functional levels, and increased use of medical resources.1,2 Despite their strong impact on the patients' lives, the recognition of depressionrelated problems is still poor in the primary sector, where 50% to 60% of the cases are not detected and do not receive adequate and specific treatment.
