“…[20, 21] On the other hand, while financial limitations are often reported as one of the main reasons why disabled women do not access preventative services,[22] our study shows that this is not necessarily the case; a very small percentage of disabled women in our study mentioned financial reasons for not doing the Pap test (0.8%) or the mammogram (1.9%). The reason behind this might be the introduction of these cancer screening procedures into the AUGE-GES system that have made the Pap test and mammography more accessible financially.…”

“…A major finding of the study was that people with disability reported visiting a health care facility significantly more often than people without a disability. Increased use of health care services by people with disabilities has also been reported from some countries earlier [11, 1619, 24, 33, 34]. If the unmet needs of people with disability have to be met, innovative strategies will need to be devised to reach out to people with disabilities, especially women who despite having an increased need may not be able to access services.…”

An extensive analysis shows that people with disabilities consistently had higher total health expenditures, out-of pocket (OOP) spending, and burden compared with their counterparts without disabilities [20].…”

“…Financial issues and lack of insurance coverage were cited as primary reasons why women with three or more functional limitations did not get mammograms and these women were more likely to be covered by Medicare, Medicaid or both, compared with their counterparts without disabilities (Chevarley et al, 2006). Among women with disabilities, the type of insurance is predictive of health care access and likelihood of receipt of mammograms (Shin & Moon, 2008; Wei et al, 2006). A study by Wei et al (2006) revealed the mammography rate to be 50% for women with disabilities who had no insurance compared to 73% for those with public insurance and 80% for those with private insurance.…”
