Total Quality Management (TQM) is regarded as a gauge of university management, in order to maintain global standards. This study examined Total Quality-Management (TQM) implementation and the practices of higher education institutions in the Philippines. It utilized a cross-sectional survey-study design to 347 respondents recruited from the total population of 3847 administrators and academic members of nine selected institutions in the Philippines. The measure of TQM adoption and practices was extracted from several sources of previous TQM researches. This study was done for six months. The analyzation and interpretation of the data were done by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results indicated that participating Filipino HEIs had a high degree of adoption on top-management commitment, Teaching and Learning Delivery Modes, campus amenities, system and process management, customer satisfaction, and linkages. In contrast, the HEIs have a modest degree of acceptance in strategic planning and Data Management. The test of differences indicated that strong confirmation to top management commitment and strategic planning as indicators of TQM is significantly more evident in private-type HEIs; and it was placed at the university level, when compared to those of the provincial and national HEIs. The findings provide some practical implications to further enhance Filipino HEIs in the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Quality Management for Competitive Advantage in Global Markets

English is often considered to be the international language of commerce and, more recently, e-commerce. English is also the predominant language of the internet, science, and many, the language of higher education. As a result, English tutoring institutions are thriving in the Chinese Mainland in recent years in a substantial and competitive market. The objective of this chapter is to reveal what are the factors that affect Chinese college students' selection of English tutoring institutions in China so that tutoring institution managers may focus on the most important criteria for their prospective customers. In this chapter, 212 Chinese college students participated in the online survey. The authors analyzed the correlation between purchase intention and price, brand image, service variety, and customer relationship. Through data analysis, they show that price, brand image, service variety, and customer relationships are all positively associated with Chinese college students' purchase intention of English tutoring institutions.

Knowledge management is a valuable antecedent in enhancing the competitive advantage and sustainability of an organization. Various quality management standards acknowledge the necessities and importance of knowledge management within quality management since both areas complement each other. Therefore, this state drives the need to conduct more knowledge management research related to quality management. However, research on knowledge management within quality management systems specifically in higher education institutions is still underexplored. This chapter attempts to explore the establishment of a knowledge management model in supporting the implementation of quality management standards. Several knowledge management enabler factors are suggested, namely strategic focus and leadership, culture, organization, structure, technology, processes, top management, measurement, knowledge, and people. An empirical study is suggested in the future to further support the conceptual knowledge management model established in this chapter.
