Quality evaluation of crystals of mixed oxides of elements of the third group of the periodic system

Abstract

Mathematical modelling methods are considered for the evaluation of perspective use of various materials, dielectric crystals as matrices for laser elements of a certain application. Garnet structure crystals and perovskite structure crystals on the basis of mixed oxides of elements of the Third Group of the Periodic System are considered in detail. The determining influence of crystal-chemical aspects on the crystal quality and its further application is defined. On the basis of calculations a certain advantage of perovskito structure crystals (aluminate and scandates of rare earths) of garnets during their application as matrices for active elements of optical quantum generators is deduced. A possibility of creating laser elements on the the basis of solid solutions of perovsltite structure combinations is emphasized. paFoTe MeToHbI MaTeMaTwiecIEoro ivoHemipoBamm npmIeHcHbI Structure considerationsI n our preceding paper (ARSENEV et al.) methods of mathenlatical modelling were applied (ARISTOV, KAMENSKY) for evaluation of perspective application of various materials as matrices for active elements of lasers of a certain type. The evaluation was made with the help of a criterion termed Generalized Quality Level and determining the level of practical fitness of the material for the above mentioned purposes. According to the results of the calculations a number of laser crystals were determined presenting simple and mixed oxides of elements of the Third Group of the Periodic System. The purpose of the paper is to supply a more detailed consideration of the specified cornbinations class and to investigate a perspective search of new crystals of active elements of laser.The Third Group elements mixed oxides form, principally, combinations with garnet and perovskite structure. While garnets have been known in laser practice for quite a long time, perovskite combinations have caused investigators' interest in this relation quite recently. In this respect i t is of great interest to deal in detail with the development of crystals of the given group.
