Quality Enhancement of Humid Tropical Soils after Application of Water Hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes) Compost

Abstract: Compost application to soil leads to the improvement of its properties. However, nutrient content and enhancing capacity of compost are highly dependent on the original source and additive. The purpose of the experiment was to investigate selected soil quality indicators’ improvement and sweet corn growth following application of water hyacinth compost. Greenhouse experiment was carried out using Completely Randomized Design with 2 factors. First factor consisted of soils from humid tropics, i.e. Ande… Show more

“…The possible reasons for resulted less amount of EC at the matured phase of composting could be the volatilization of ammonia and the precipitation of mineral salts [ 25 , 26 ]. For the improvement of agricultural soils, the acceptable level of EC in compost is < 4 dS/m [ 27 , 28 ]. Therefore, the prepared compost is good for improving agricultural soil fertility.…”

“…The formation will lower the production of hydrogen. Several studies confirm that organic matter significantly reduces soil acidity (Muktamar et al 2018;Anggita et al 2018;Sianturi et al 2019;Muktamar et al 2016). The study aims to determine the acidity reduction of Pb and Cd contaminated soil under the vermicompost application.…”
