Quality based HSDPA access algorithms

Abstract: A new quality based HSDPA access algorithm is derived, which only admits new users provided that the specified QoS requirements can be fulfilled. The proposed algorithm is designed so that it takes both priority and minimum bit rate requirements into account in the decision process. As a case study, the quality based HSDPA access algorithm is tested by means of dynamic network simulations with streaming traffic on HSDPA. For a maximum allowable unsatisfied user probability of 5% it is found that the proposed a… Show more

“…We use a quality based HSDPA admission control algorithm that was proposed in [13] with some modifications. In this approach, a new user is admitted only if it can be served with its target bit rate without degrading the throughput of all the users with the same or higher SPI (priority) from their target bit rates.…”

“…The feedback measurements from the Node-B to the RNC in Fig. 2 (the carrier transmit power, the average non-HSDPA power, the HS-DSCH required power, and the HS-DSCH provided bit rate) can be used for HSDPA admission control decisions as discussed in [6]. The SPI and the GBR are therefore the two primary parameters to control QoS differentiation on HSDPA.…”

“…1 shows an overview of the architecture for HSDPA, including the user-plane protocol stack and the primary radio resource management (RRM) algorithms at the RNC. The RRM functions at the RNC include the quality based HSDPA access control algorithm [5]- [6], handover control [17], setting of HSDPA specific QoS parameters, and allocation of HSDPA transmission resources (power and channelization codes) to the MAC-hs. In principle, the RNC and Node-B could be from different equipment manufacturers, so that the exact implementation of MAC-hs packet scheduling algorithm is partly unknown by the RRM functions at the RNC.…”
