PurposeThe agribusiness in Extremadura (Spain) is one of the main economic activities in the region. Within this industry, cooperativism stands out as a strategic component that influences the fixation of the rural population and the development of the territory. Likewise, innovation is fundamental for the competitiveness of companies. The aim of this study is to analyse the existence of a relationship between several business variables: strategy, culture, work climate, management, organisation and market orientation in the innovative performance of agri-food cooperative companies. Differences with other types of agri-food organisations are also analysed.Design/methodology/approachThe authors proposed a conceptual research model, which aims to determine the influence of several business variables on innovative performance. A qualitative methodology was used through a multiple case study where five Extremaduran agri-food cooperatives were chosen to carry out the research.FindingsThe results show that the business variables are valued positively as factors that enhance innovative performance. Moreover, the peculiarities of cooperatives show several differences with respect to non-cooperative companies.Originality/valueThe results contribute to agri-food cooperatives' managers developing specific actions that improve the competitiveness and sustainability of agribusiness based on innovation.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to verify how distributed cognition enhances collaborative problem-solving in the context of projects.Design/methodology/approachUsing qualitative research and in-depth interviews, a sample of 32 project managers with experience in traditional and agile methods acting in Brazil and internationally participated in the research process. The analysis process, utilising coding techniques, involved stages: open, axial, coding and selective coding. These stages encompassed the evaluation of categories based on a hierarchy, in order to determine an appropriate level of abstraction that properly explains theoretical findings.FindingsThe results indicate that distributed team cognition is significant for collaborative problem-solving. The data from the interviews allowed the proposal of a model of cognition, and the identification of the elements that support it.Practical implicationsUnderstand how aspects of distributed team cognition can impact the behaviours of the project professional and contribute to problem-solving in the project environment.Originality/valueThe elements observed affects the collaborative problem-solving by presenting a model of distributed cognition, which is composed by directed communication, collective interaction, trust building and collaborative behaviour.

Many organizations acknowledge the importance of creating inclusive workspaces but struggle with implementing effective DEI initiatives. The purpose of this study is to uncover the internal organizational barriers to effective DEI program implementation in organizations. The researcher conducted a comprehensive database search and quality appraisal for the best available data resulting in the inclusion of 13 high-quality articles. Synthesis of evidence that emerged from inductive thematic coding of the 13 articles yielded findings of this study which are-DEI solutions not aligned with organizational DEI needs, no pre-mortem to minimize implementation challenges, and organizational culture at odds with DEI strategy. A limitation of this study is the small number of articles synthesized so the study may not have addressed all the contexts related to this study. This study highlights the importance of hiring a DEI consultant to help organizations navigate the DEI initiatives implementation process, conducting a DEI audit to understand the DEI status of the organization and existing gaps, setting DEI goals based on existing gaps and incorporating metrics to track and measure success. This study provides a good starting point for organizations looking to implement DEI initiatives effectively.
