In the supply chain and logistics industry, the precision of the data assets inventory plays a crucial role in warehouse activities. The operations like storage locations arrangement, inventory management, and maintaining the flow of incoming and out coming goods lead to the success of the warehouse. Nowadays, most people are preferring online shopping all over the world because it is faster than local trade. Thus, there's massive information in the supply chain and logistics sector to explore in order to improve operations of the warehouse such as receiving, ordering, shipping, storage assignment to facilitate the automation in the warehouse. This study is conducted to improve warehouse activities by automating storage and inventory management. A software program was developed with sets of rules, and an algorithm to optimize the inventory operations with the help of RFID technology. The predefined rules help in giving priorities to some of the selected products to store and retrieve in indicated location. The UHF RFID reader is attached to the entrance of the gate of the warehouse to facilitate the reading of incoming goods. Once the goods arrive in the warehouse, the storage location function will assign to each product the storage location and update status in the database. A handheld reader facilitates inventory management and communicates with the application via a wireless network and finally store data in the database for future use. After developing this system, a test was conducted for testing the feasibility and applicability of the system. The output showed that the inventory management operation was made strides, and the correctness of inventory location increased from 72.8% to 99%. The cycle time moreover decreases from 50 minutes to 18 minutes which is down to 28.79%.

Indonesian government agencies under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources still use manual methods in determining and selecting proposals for operational activities to be carried out. This study uses the Decision Support System (DSS) method, namely Fuzzy Multiple Attribute Decision Decision (Fmadm) and K-Means Clustering method in managing Operational Plan activities. Fmadm to select the best alternative from a number of alternatives, alternatives from this study proposed activity proposals, then ranking to determine the optimal alternative. The K-Means Clustering Method to obtain cluster values for alternatives on the criteria for activity dates, types of activities, and activity ceilings. The last iteration of the Euclidian distance calculation data on k-means shows that alternatives that have the smallest centroid value are important proposal criteria and the largest centroid value is an insignificant proposal criteria. The results of the collaboration of the Fmadm and K-Means Clustering methods show the optimal ranking of activities (proposal activities) and the centroid value of each alternative.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the impacts of Logistics 4.0 initiatives (focusing on automated warehousing systems) on the economic, environmental and social dimensions of firms' sustainability performance. To achieve this objective, a new framework for the assessment of sustainable warehousing in the 4.0 era is developed.Design/methodology/approachThe framework, developed via the item-objective congruence index, Q-sort method and interviews with experts, is employed to assess performance changes through management interviews in two warehousing companies after the implementation of automation technologies.FindingsMost aspects of both companies' sustainability performance are considerably improved (e.g. productivity, accuracy, air emission, worker safety and supply chain visibility); however, the outcome for some criteria might be worsened or improved depending on each company's solutions and strategies (e.g. increasing electricity bills, maintenance costs and job losses).Practical implicationsThe findings provide insight into the effective implementation of warehousing technologies. The proposed framework is also a valid and reliable instrument for sustainability assessment for warehousing operators, which companies can utilise for self-assessment.Originality/valueThis paper contributes to establishing a body of literature that explores the previously unclarified effects of Logistics 4.0 on firms' sustainability performance. The proposed framework, which captures critical concerns of corporate sustainability and technological adaptation, is also the first of its kind for warehouse performance assessment.
