Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of the Phenolic Constituents fromOrthosiphon aristatus

Abstract: ORTHOSIPHON ARISTATUS (Orthosiphonis folium DAB 9) was studied with regard to its phenolic constituents. Twenty compounds were isolated and identified on the basis of their spectral characteristics. The compounds included nine lipophilic flavones, two flavonol glycosides, and nine caffeic acid derivatives. The presence of the recently reported methylripariochromene A could not be confirmed. All compounds identified were quantified by HPLC. The caffeic acid derivatives including the major compounds rosmarinic a… Show more

“…stamineus contains several chemically active constituents; one of the most important classes of compounds is the phenolic group. Some researchers have isolated many phenolic compounds including lipophilic flavones, flavonol glycosides, and caffeic acid derivatives, such as 2,3-dicaffeoyltartaric acid and rosmarinic acid, which have been identified and quantified by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (Sumaryono et al, 1991). O. stamineus leaves contain polymethoxylated flavones, sinensetin, tetramethylscutellarein and 30-hydroxy-5,6,7,40-tetramethoxyflavone, as reported by Pietta et al (1998).…”

“…Usually separation methods using both, column [3][4][5] and planar [6][7][8][9] chromatography are preferred. Generally thin layer analyses are carried out on silica plates.…”
