We present the results of a phenomenological study of unpolarized nuclear structure functions for a wide kinematical region of x and Q 2 . As a basis of our phenomenology we develop a model which takes into account a number of different nuclear effects including nuclear shadowing, Fermi motion and binding, nuclear pion excess and off-shell correction to bound nucleon structure functions. Within this approach we perform a statistical analysis of available data on the ratio of the nuclear structure functions F 2 for different nuclei in the range from the deuteron to the lead. We express the off-shell effect and the effective scattering amplitude describing nuclear shadowing in terms of few parameters which are common to all nuclei and have a clear physical interpretation. The parameters are then extracted from statistical analysis of data. As a result, we obtain an excellent overall agreement between our calculations and data in the entire kinematical region of x and Q 2 . We discuss a number of applications of our model which include the calculation of the deuteron structure functions, nuclear valence and sea quark distributions and nuclear structure functions for neutrino charged-current scattering. * kulagin@ms2.inr.ac.ru † Roberto.Petti@cern.ch

Coherent Power Corrections to Structure Functions

We calculate and resum a perturbative expansion of nuclear enhanced power corrections to the structure functions measured in deeply inelastic scattering of leptons on a nuclear target. Our results for the Bjorken x-, Q 2 -and A-dependence of nuclear shadowing in F A 2 (x, Q 2 ) and the nuclear modifications to F A L (x, Q 2 ), obtained in terms of the QCD factorization approach, are consistent with the existing data. We predict the dynamical shadowing from final state interactions in ν +A reactions for sea and valence quarks in the structure functions F A 2 (x, Q 2 ) and xF A 3 (x, Q 2 ), respectively. In p + A collisions we calculate the centrality and rapidity dependent nuclear suppression of single and double inclusive hadron production at moderate transverse momenta.

A QCD fit analysis to the combined HERA inclusive deep inelastic cross sections measured by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations for e ± p scattering to extract HERAPDF sets is presented. The results are used for predictions of pp processes at Tevatron and pp processes at the LHC. The QCD analysis has been extended to include the combined HERA II measurements at high Q 2 resulting in the HERAPDF1.5 sets, with full estimation of uncertainties. The precision of the new PDFs at high x is considerably improved, particularly in the valence sector. In addition, inclusion of the HERA jet data allows for a precise determination of the strong coupling. Moreover, inclusion of the preliminary combined HERA charm data provides constraints for the optimal value of the charm mass used in QCD theory models which may account for some of the differences among global PDF fits.
