“…Considering the recent efforts made toward adopting polymer flooding for low-permeability formations and the significance of Sor reduction to the overall recovery factor, , a consolidated effort is needed to investigate the effect of polymer’s viscoelasticity on Sor reduction in low-permeability rocks. Therefore, the objectives of this paper are: (1) to formulate two polymer systems of varying viscosities and elasticities using rheometry and then perform core flooding experiments at a low Darcy velocity of 0.2 ft/day in sequential mode to investigate if the polymer’s elasticity can lead to true Sor reduction in a well-swept core at a flux much far away from the well, (2) to determine whether the polymer viscoelasticity relies solely on the high pressure drop to mobilize residual oil in low-permeability rocks, and (3) to finally investigate what would happen to the flow behavior and recovery profiles in low-permeability cores if the polymer elasticity is increased due to an increased MW.…”
