“…Moreover, these repertoires might help them connect with larger life values, leading to better health outcomes. Taken together, these findings corroborate the literature on how these personal resources might act as protective factors against the deleterious effects of stressors on mental health, especially in the COVID-19 context (Echeverria et al, 2022;Kang et al, 2021). In the present study, what is surprising, however, is the mediating role that EM and PL played in the relationships between mindfulness and psychological distress indicators.…”

“…For instance, Kang et al (2021) found adults high in PL were more likely to report lower levels of loneliness and be more engaged in COVID‐19‐protective behaviours. Similarly, Echeverria et al (2022) pointed out that PL protected college students' mental health against depression and other indicators of psychopathology during the pandemic. In studying the same population, Verhaeghen (2021) observed that mindfulness significantly predicted PL.…”

“…The logistic regressions we carried out showed that PIL was most consistently related to burnout, with the total PIL score and the score for its emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal fulfillment dimensions representing predictors of the presence of burnout. Some previous studies that sought to relate PIL to the presence of psychopathology indicated that high levels of PIL were related to a reduction in the appearance of symptoms of anxiety and depression ( 36 38 ). PIL has also been linked to lower levels of hopelessness and worry in patients with eating disorders ( 39 ).…”

“…Purpose Orientation and DepressionHowever, most of the instruments used in previous research about the relationship between purpose and depression only measure the intensity of purpose without focusing on the content of purpose,23 which may ignore significant individual differences 24. This study focused on purpose orientation, defined as the content of one's life purpose, which was found to lead to different patterns of living and to be differentially related to well-being 25.…”
